Dispute resolution in Cyprus: strategy before escalation

Compare assessment, demands, negotiation and initial court stages. Choose a defined legal deliverable, with visible fees and no guarantee of a court or collection outcome.

A proposed 30-minute lawyer consultation: €150 + VAT. Discuss your goal, options and a custom scope.

Your starting point

The right next step is the one justified by evidence, cost and your objective. A considered assessment can help you pursue a proportionate response, negotiate or reconsider an expensive dispute.

01

Build a record the lawyer can evaluate

Create a dated chronology and preserve contracts, messages, invoices and payment evidence. Separate facts you can establish from assumptions. Include material that may weaken your position; a strategy based on a selective record is less useful when the other side responds.

State the value at stake and your preferred outcome. Recovery, performance, an exit and protection from a claim can lead to different recommendations even when the documents overlap.

02

Compare options before commissioning escalation

A demand letter, bounded negotiation and court proceedings involve different work and risk. Ask which missing evidence could change the recommendation and whether settlement terms would be practical to implement.

There is no guaranteed winning percentage or universal collection promise. The goal is to choose a defensible and economically considered stage, then review the position as new information arrives.

03

Handle court papers and deadlines directly

If papers have already been served, preserve the complete set and record how and when they arrived. Seek prompt advice about the actual procedural obligations. A calendar reservation or negotiation with the claimant does not protect a deadline.

One hearing or an initial pleading is a specific engagement. Later applications, disclosure, evidence, trial and enforcement should be listed separately where outside the accepted scope.

04

Keep the budget linked to decisions

Before each stage, approve the deliverable, review rounds, professional fee and responsibility for external charges. The court’s calendar and the other party’s actions cannot be priced as guaranteed preparation time.

Use a focused consultation to assess the first step and request a custom fixed-fee proposal where the standard scope does not fit. You retain a clear approval point before additional legal work begins.

Your route to a fixed-fee decision

  1. Define the decision. Identify the people, documents, location, deadline and outcome that matter.
  2. Discuss the options. A confirmed consultation can clarify which legal stage is useful, which evidence is missing and whether other advisers are needed.
  3. Approve the scope. The provider confirms its identity, included work, review rounds, professional fee, applicable VAT and external costs in writing.
  4. Receive the agreed work. Preparation is organised digitally. Signatures, appointments, hearings and authority decisions are planned separately when necessary.

Before you choose your next step

Can I combine services in a custom offer?

Yes. Discuss the required stages, documents and dependencies before engagement. A custom proposal should identify each included deliverable and its fixed professional fee, applicable VAT and separate external costs.

Is the consultation included in a package?

The proposed 30-minute consultation is €150 + VAT and is a separate service. Any requirement to consult first or credit towards later work must be expressly confirmed in the provider’s written quote.

How is the timeframe confirmed?

Included legal preparation begins after written acceptance and complete documents. Your advocate confirms the milestone in the scope. Court dates, appointments, authority decisions and counterparty responses are separate.
